Something in the Way - Jessica Hawkins

I was sold when I read a preview of this book.  It's a forbidden romance between Lake and Manning.  Lake is a 16 years old A student who always has her nose in a book.  Manning is a construction worker who has sad past.  Jessica, Lake's sister, met Manning when she was looking for Lake after failing to pick her up from school.

The whole book, you see the deep relationship develop between Manning and Lake.  Lake knows he can't be with her.  She is 16 and he's 23.   However, he is drawn to her because she reminds him of his younger sister.

Jessica is the only connection between Manning and Lake.  Manning started dating her because he sees it's the only way to keep Lake in his life.

The cliff ending kept me on my toes.  I can't wait until the next book.

Falling In - Lydia Michaels

This book reminds me of Pretty Woman with a twist.  It centers around Evelyn "Scout" Keats and Lucian Patras.

Evelyn is a maid in Patras hotel.  Lucian Patras is the CEO of the hotel.   The book starts off with Evelyn cleaning an office in Lucian's hotel room.  He catches her gathering his papers on the floor.  He thinks she is invading his privacy.   He then propositions her to have an affair with him.

Evelyn is homeless; she lives in the shelter with her friend, Parker.  Her mother, Pearl, is a drug addict.  Evelyn, eventually, agrees to Lucian's term.

Throughout the book, you see Lucian pursue and treat Evelyn as a prize.  Evelyn hides her social status from him.  This book is filled with passion and drama.  I highly recommend it.

Everything Stolen - Sophia Scarlet

I always enjoy a love triangle. This book has angst and heartache.

The three main characters are Jeremy Bradford, Sylvie Solum and Silas Chambers.

It was four years ago when Jeremy disappeared. Sylvie was the love of his life. She was heartbroken and pregnant.  Silas, an attorney, hired by Jeremy's parents to obtain Jeremy's personal belongings from Sylvie.   They spent a lot of time together.  Eventually,  they fell in love.  Two years later, they married.

Jeremy woke up from a four years coma.  The first word, he uttered was Sylvie's name.  He was told Sylvie married and she had his son. He was determined to win Sylvie back.

Throughout the book, the readers are on this rollercoaster of emotions.  Who do you choose?  Your first love or your husband?

Torrid Affair - Callie Anderson

This book isn't for everyone. If you don't condone cheating, this isn't the one for you.

It starts with present time where you see the heroine, Brielle, in an unhappy marriage. The next part of the book, it goes back in 10 years when she met and fell in love with Nate. The relationship between them is filled with heart wrenching angst and a lot of drama. It ends in present time where you see the two try to fight their feeling for each other.

I actually read Torrid Affair in one sitting. I kept wanting to strangle Nate. He was the reason, Brielle and him were breaking up and making up throughout their relationship. I felt Brielle was acting like a child most of the time. She kept trying to make Nate jealous.

Do I recommend this book? Hell yeah. It's beautifully written and it pulls your heart strings.

The Protector - Jodi Ellen Malpas

One of my favorite authors is Jodi Ellen Malpas. Hence, when I found out she was coming out with a new book, I was excited for the release date. I loved This Man trilogy thus I had high expectations for this book.

The Protector is a standalone.

The heroine, Camille Logan, is this gorgeous model. Her father is a ruthless businessman with many enemies. When he received a death threat against his daughter, he hires this bodyguard, Jake Sharp, a former sniper, to protect her.

As the story moves along, we go on this journey to discover who is sending the threat. Also, we see chemistry build between Camille and Jake.

"I'm mad for her. I need to keep her. I need to protect her."

I love how this book has two povs and it alternates in each chapter. I also love the friendship between Camille and her best friend, Heather. Their scenes are funny and sweet. You can tell those two are friends who stand by each other.

This book would have been great if there was an epilogue. I would love to see what happens between the hero and heroine in the future. Otherwise, it's overall a good book with suspense and romance.
